Eco Seafood is preparing for land-based salmon farming based on proven technology to ensure sustainable production. We emphasize a low environmental footprint, high animal welfare, and local value creation — at a location with strong growth potential.
Sustainable production of premium salmon — driven by innovation, strong animal welfare, and green growth.
Eco Seafood is establishing a modern and sustainable land-based production of premium salmon in Nærøysund Municipality — one of Norway’s leading aquaculture regions.
In its initial phase, the company will produce post-smolt for sale and further growth at sea, with the long-term goal of developing a full value chain for harvesting market-ready salmon at its own facility.
With a permit for 46,200 tonnes from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) and documented environmental impact from phase 1, Eco Seafood will gradually expand its production. With access to energy and 369 decares of regulated land in the Kråkøya Industrial Park, the foundation is in place for a large-scale initiative.
Eco Seafood is located at the heart of Norway’s aquaculture industry, with access to expertise, education and research institutions, established logistics and infrastructure, and potential collaboration partners.
The establishment is an important part of the industrial symbiosis and circular economy being developed at Kråkøya. Eco Seafood will supply raw materials and receive key inputs from its partners.
Eco Seafood will generate significant local ripple effects, create jobs, and support skills development. With strong local ties, innovative solutions, and a focus on sustainability, Eco Seafood will play a key role in the future of salmon production in Nærøysund Municipality.
Eco Seafood AS is founded by Vegar Livik and Thomas Williksen. The application process for the grow-out facility begins.

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) approves plans for the production of 1,200 tonnes of smolt and 45,000 tonnes of grow-out salmon.
Trøndelag County Municipality grants Eco Seafood an aquaculture license for the first construction phase, covering land-based production of 10,200 tonnes of salmon.
Agreement signed with Kråkøya Eiendom for the purchase of 40 decares of industrial land, with an option for an additional 329 decares. Vibeke Emilsen Wetterwald is appointed as Production Director.
Eco Seafood is allocated 5 MW of power for the first construction phase. Work continues on infrastructure planning and facility design. The company is actively seeking strategic partners.
With broad experience from industry, aquaculture, finance, and business development, the board provides strategic strength and direction for the company’s sustainable growth.
